Ground Surfaces for Open Landscapes

Build a valley floor or a desert plain from rocky and slate ground, ridged desert rock, cooled lava and cliff rock, or from the Unreal Engine 5 packs covering rocky, cliff, forest and dirt terrain. Combine them with our dirt materials and terrain 3D models.

Category information

Unreal pack or single material?

Unreal Engine 5 packs: one large ZIP of 8K PBR materials using parallax occlusion mapping, which fakes depth on flat ground without extra geometry.
Single materials: ZIP downloads with a choice of resolutions, for projects outside Unreal. Pick a larger size for ground near the camera.

How to texture a large terrain

Blend by slope: rock on the steep faces, dirt or slate wherever the ground levels out.
Lay a broad, soft color variation over the whole landscape, so distant hills don't all share one tone and the repeat disappears.
For boulders and cliff faces standing on the ground, switch to our rock materials.
Light it with landscape HDRIs, pairing desert rock with a desert sky and forest ground with a forest.
